The Student Council are the main antagonists of the Student Council Saga and make up the elites of Ohtori Academy; all of the members of the student council are duelists who must compete for the rose bride. The council consists of Touga Kiryuu the president, Kyouichi Saionji the vice-president, Miki Kaoru, Juri Arisugawa, Nanami Kiryuu, and Ruka Tsuchiya. Later on, Touga's sister Nanami becomes the president after he is defeated by Utena in a duel.
During the series, it's clear that while Touga may be the leader of the council itself, he answers to a higher authority known only as "End of the World". Their relationship with Utena often varies from antagonistic to affable. Each member duels her multiple times throughout the series, first during the Student Council Saga, and again during the Akio Ohtori Saga. During the Black Rose Saga, they each have a sword forcefully drawn from them by a Black Rose Duelist who was a character each member had forged a bond with.
Though the meetings themselves are often taken seriously by the council themselves, it's often contrasted with bizarre events going on in the background.
Trivia[]
- Their opening meeting speech is a reference to Chapter 5 of the novel Demian. The key difference is the way it's phrased: Demian's version refers to an individual being born and how they must destroy a world to born before flying back to Abraxas (the supreme deity of Gnostic lore). Revolutionary Girl Utena's refers to a collective, namely the student council who wish to destroy the world so they may be born to bring about the revolution.
